Therapy with Teenagers
The teenage years can feel exciting, demanding, confusing, and overwhelming, sometimes all at once. You might feel like you’re juggling family expectations, school pressure, friendships (both online and offline), and huge changes in who you are and who you want to be.
If you’re struggling, please know this: you’re not alone, and nothing is “wrong” with you for finding this hard.
Why teenagers come to therapy
I support young people with a wide range of experiences, including:
-
anxiety, sadness, or persistent low mood
-
feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or burnt out
-
friendship difficulties, conflict, or feeling left out
-
sleep difficulties
-
grief/ loss/ family break up
-
suicidal thoughts, self-harm
-
trauma
-
substance abuse
-
problems with anger
-
falling out with family or feeling misunderstood at home
-
identity, body image, and self-esteem struggles
-
worries about school, exams, or future plans
-
questions around sexuality, gender, or relationships
-
navigating social media, online pressure, or comparison
Therapy can be a space to unpack what feels heavy, confusing, or difficult- without judgement, pressure, or fear of getting it “wrong”.
For neurodivergent teens (diagnosed or exploring)
Many teenagers I work with are autistic, have ADHD, or are exploring the possibility of being neurodivergent. You don’t need a diagnosis to be here. You might simply recognise yourself in some of these experiences:
-
feeling different from peers and not knowing why
-
struggling to start homework, projects, or revision even when you want to
-
sensory overload or shutdowns in busy classrooms or social spaces
-
masking at school and feeling exhausted afterwards
-
difficulties managing routine, organisation, or emotions
-
being labelled as “too sensitive”, “too much”, “lazy”, or “dramatic”
-
school refusal / anxiety because the environment feels unmanageable
-
difficulty understanding social rules or friendship expectations
-
perfectionism or fear of making mistakes
-
feeling behind even when you’re trying really hard
Therapy can help you understand yourself, build confidence in your identity, and find strategies that work for your brain and body.
What therapy can offer you
This is a place where you can:
-
say things out loud without fear of judgement
-
understand your emotions in clearer, kinder ways
-
explore friendships and relationships safely
-
make sense of who you are and how you work
-
learn coping strategies that fit you
-
build communication skills and boundaries
-
reflect on past experiences and move forward
-
develop confidence, resilience, and self-trust
We go at your pace. There’s no pressure to overshare. It’s okay if you’re unsure where to start, we can figure that out together.
This is a space for all ways of being

In therapy, you are welcome to:
-
stim, fidget, doodle
-
take breaks or change topics
-
communicate directly or indirectly
-
talk, write, draw, play, walk around or sit quietly while you think
-
ask questions, slow things down, or say “I don’t know”
There is no “right” way to be here. There is only your way, and we build from that.

I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation to explore whether I’m the right fit and how therapy might support you or your teen.
